Scholarships

Many students in the FPE program at Cal Poly have received scholarships to help defray their educational costs. One ambitious student obtained enough scholarship support to pay for almost the entire tuition costs of the program. Some of the scholarship opportunities available to FPE students are listed below.

Code Consultants, Inc. (CCI) Fire Protection Engineering Scholarship

Amount: $2,500

The Code Consultants, Inc (CCI) Fire Protection Engineering Scholarship was established in 2021. By establishing the Code Consultants, Inc. (CCI) Fire Protection Engineering Scholarship, CCI is investing in exceptional, eager, and passionate graduate students in the Cal Poly Fire Protection Engineering program. This scholarship is awarded annually to two exceptional students in the Fire Protection Engineering program at Cal Poly. The recipients are selected by faculty in the Fire Protection Engineering program.

Two $2,500 Scholarships are available.

Diverse Education Scholarship

This scholarship seeks to promote multidisciplinary education and is available to undergraduate degree from a different major than their graduate program of study. For example, an engineering or science undergraduate degree and a graduate business degree, but applicants are not limited to this combination. This scholarship supports the creation of a campus-wide graduate community that embraces all colleges and majors.

Diverse Education Scholarship

FPE Alumni Scholarship

Amount: $500

This scholarship is supported by contributions from Cal Poly FPE alumni and friends of the FPE program at Cal Poly. Awards of $500 are available to eligible students in the FPE program at Cal Poly. This scholarship is awarded by the FPE program.

Frank J. Calabrese Memorial Scholarship

The Frank J. Calabrese Memorial Scholarship was established to honor Frank’s legacy and to commemorate his passion for the education and wellbeing of Cal Poly students. This scholarship supports students in all class levels for Industrial Technology students and graduate level for Fire Protection Engineering. This scholarship is awarded every other year by the FPE program.

Frank O. Rheinisch Scholarship

The Frank O. Rheinisch Scholarship in Fire Protection Engineering was established in 2018 by his widow, Diane Rheinisch, and his son, Eric Rheinisch, in memory of the late Frank O. Rheinisch. Mr. Rheinisch was the founder of Alpha Fire Sprinkler Corporation in San Luis Obispo as well as two other companies in the fire protection industry. This scholarship is awarded annually to two exceptional students in the Fire Protection Engineering program at Cal Poly. The recipients are selected by faculty in the Fire Protection Engineering program.

FAMA Philip J. Turner Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Application Deadline: June 1

The Fire Apparatus Manufacturers Association offers one (1) $5,000 scholarship to a full-time sophomore, junior, or senior student registered in a four-year fire protection engineering program or in a full-time master’s degree program in fire protection engineering or administration. FAMA Philip J. Turner Scholarship

Southern California SFPE Chapter Scholarship

Amount: $2000

Application Deadline: December 4 (Extended 2020-21 only)

The Southern California Chapter of SFPE awards an annual academic scholarship to the most qualified candidate in the amount of $2000. The primary purpose of the Southern California SFPE Scholarship Award is to promote interest and public awareness of the science and practice of Fire Protection Engineering and to promote and encourage students to study for a career in Fire Protection Engineering. Those eligible to apply must be enrolled in the Fire Protection Engineering degree program at California Polytechnic State University – San Luis Obispo. Eligible applicants must complete the application and submit it no later than December 4. Applications will be awarded by December 31.

The scholarship is funded by SFPE Southern California Chapter’s annual Symposium. Financial support for the Symposium directly supports this scholarship, and its potential expansion.

SFPE Chapter Scholarship

Honeywell Life Safety Scholarship

Amount: $5,000

Honeywell Life Safety supports a $5,000 scholarship for Cal Poly FPE students. This scholarship is awarded by the FPE program.

A number of SFPE chapters award scholarships to FPE students. Student should check with their local SFPE chapters to see if the chapter sponsors any scholarships. Greater Atlanta Chapter Scholarship Northern California-Nevada Chapter

This information is provided to current and prospective students in the FPE program at Cal Poly for their own pursuit. The FPE program at Cal Poly cannot and does not file scholarship applications on behalf of students and the FPE program cannot guarantee scholarship applications will be successful. Professors and advisors in the FPE program will write letters of recommendation or reference in support of scholarship applications as needed.
