Fire Protection Engineering at Cal Poly
The College of Engineering
at Cal Poly has established a Master of Science (MS) degree program in Fire Protection Engineering (FPE). This is only the third graduate program in Fire Protection Engineering in the United States and the first one to be located on the West Coast. One goal of this program is to help fill the increasing demand for fire protection engineers, particularly in California and other western states, where the lack of educational programs in FPE has resulted in a shortage. Graduate Certificate Program approved. Click here for more information
On-Campus or Online: the choice is yours!
The FPE program at Cal Poly is offered both on-campus and on-line. Students continuing directly from their undergraduate studies are encouraged to enroll full-time in the on-campus program, where they can interact directly with faculty members and other students as they complete the program in 1.5 to 2 years. Working professionals seeking to enhance their skills and qualifications in FPE can enroll part-time in the on-line distance program, where they will take the same courses as the on-campus students and will work with professional mentors in the field, but may take longer to complete the program. This blended format offers students a high degree of flexibility in managing their educational and professional needs.
The FPE program at Cal Poly builds on the hands-on learn-by-doing philosophy that has ranked Cal Poly as the best public master's level university in the west by U.S. News and World Report for 18 years in a row. The FPE program is designed to educate students who are fundamentally sound as well as practically applied so that they can enter the FPE workforce and be productive immediately.
